The Isle of Cats

This tropical island once belonged to the cats but they have found themselves enslaved by a horde of dog invaders. Venturing out into the jungle unprepared will lead to a quick demise from deadly kissing snakes. Malcolm is in need of some henchmen to assist in his revenge on Kyrandia and the pirates at the beach will make the perfect stooges. Captain Jean Claude won't be willing to set sail without some powerful magic so we had better get searching.

Malcolm will land on a different part of the isle depending on how he left Kyrandia but the first objective is always the same - visit the Dog's Fort to pick up the machete. If you ended up in the jungle or on the beach, you can reach the fort on the sesame cart. By setting Malcolm's mood to nice, you can hitch a ride free of charge. The destination can be random so you may need to ride more than once.

Now that you have the Machete, it's time to go adventuring in the jungle. To clear a path, click the machete on bushes blocking the way and Malcolm will hack away. If any Kissing Snakes are revealed underneath, be sure to quickly hit them with the machete or Malcolm's journey will come to an abrupt end. You'll quickly notice that it's easy to get turned around - because few paths lead back to the same area you just came from.

The only real reason you want to trek through the jungle instead of using the sesame cart is to find bones. They can be found under bushes occasionally when clearing them with a machete. The dogs on the island really love these little treats so collect every one that you can find.

Every time Malcolm passes through the Dog Fort he will become infested with fleas. Constant itching is a sure sign and if the problem is ignored, Malcolm will eventually scratch himself to death. Simply click him to remove the fleas one by one or take a dip in one of the puddles found throughout the jungle.

An Ancient Ruins can be found within the Dog Fort but it is too dark to venture in. Travel to the jungle to the right of the fort and use the machete to clear the bush in the far lower right corner to reveal a hole. With the bush cleared, sunlight will be able to illuminate the ruins below. Beyond the ruins you will find the Hieroglyphics Room housing six magical statues with a purpose that isn't clear yet.

If you travel towards the Altar of Cats to the left of the Dog Fort, you will first run into Fluffy. Though the cats have been deposed, Fluffy leads a resistance movement against the dogs. If you set Malcolm's mood to lying, he will convince fluffy he is sympathetic to their cause. In return, Fluffy will gift you the Leather Mouse. This magical artifact will be able to detect the element of each statue in the Hieroglyphics Room found below the Dog Fort.

Continue to the right of Fluffy to find the Altar of Cats. This mystical altar and the Colossus Ruins beyond certainly house the powerful magic that Jean Claude was looking for.

Having traveled around the jungle, you should have picked up a good supply of dog bones along the way. Not too surprisingly these can be used at the Dog Fort to dig up gems - six in total. Though a red gem will be dug up first, the remaining five will be found at random. You can either save and reload or simply stock up on a large number of bones until you unearth every single gem.

The pirates still won't set sail without magic but they will certainly take any gems they are offered. If you happen to lose any of your gems this way, you can sneak aboard the ship's hold to steal them back. To do this, you will need to get Jean Claude to leave the area. By becoming infected with fleas at the Dog Fort, Malcolm can pick fleas off of himself and place then onto Jean Claude until he runs off to rid himself of the itchy menace.

Before leaving, visit the Hieroglyph Room and use the Leather Mouse to illuminate the area. By clicking the mouse to each statue, you will be able to see which element it is associated with.

With all six gems in hand, it's time to learn more about them. Travel to the Altar of Cats and place each gem on it to see their elemental properties. Those elements are: Ruby (Fire), Emerald (wind), Sapphire (Lightning), Topaz (Sun), Diamond (Moon) and Amethyst (Rain). With this final piece of the puzzle in mind, it's time to finally solve this riddle.

Travel to the Colossus Ruins beyond the Altar of Cats. Touch the Leather Mouse to any of the stone spheres and they will morph into the same statues seen in the Hieroglyph Room. All that's needed is to place the correct stone in each statue. The order from left to right is: Diamond, Topaz, Amethyst, Emerald, Sapphire and Ruby. If you make any mistake in placement the gems will blast off into the sky and you will need to search the jungle to recover them so proceed with caution.

Your hard work will be rewarded with the legendary Crystal Mouse. With the colossus restored, the cats have retaken the island. Unfortunately that means the sesame cart has been halted and you will have to travel to the pirate beach on foot. If you experimented on yourself with the Crystal Mouse, Fluffy will be able to return Malcolm to normal with some special cheese.

Starting from Fluffy's area, simply travel north three times to reach the pirate's beach. Jean Claude will want a display of your fearsome new power so use the Crystal Mouse on the peg legged pirate Louie. Now Malcolm's invasion of Kyrandia can really begin...
