Kyrandia

Malcolm's back and his adventure is like nothing you've seen before. Gunther, his bad conscience, will accompany you on their adventure and won't hesitate to give advice that may or may not be helpful. In addition to your trouble-making guide, Malcolm has a mood meter that can be adjusted from lying to normal to nice. Different characters require different approaches and a change in personality can change the way they will respond. There are many ways to go through Malcolm's Revenge so don't be afraid to go off the rails. Clearing Malcolm's name won't be easy but it will be one crazy adventure you won't forget.

To a normal person, a dump looks like nothing more than a pile of junk but Malcolm can see there's treasure in other people's trash. Rummage around to grab a few nails, a broken flask and one of Brandon's old shoes. You can find new items every time you visit so leave and return if what you are searching for doesn't turn up. Past Castle Kyrandia, then left through the Bluff lies the Crossroads and a few points of interest. The bizarre purple sphere back at the Bluff is actually a transporter for reaching Downtown Kyrandia quickly if you choose to use it later on.

Katherine's grave can be found north of the Crossroads. To summon her spirit, you will need to place two flowers on it. Monkey Jumpers are the only flowers in the region and they are surprisingly skittish for flora, making them impossible to pick by hand. Use your broken flask to snag one before it can run away. The reunion won't go well with someone who believes you've murdered her so switch Malcolm's behavior to nice to get some helpful information out of her.

At the Pegasus Landing a traveler is about to make a landing. It turns out to be none other than Zanthia, one of the Royal Mystics. Since Malcolm is a wanted criminal for the whole trying to take over Kyrandia thing, you may eventually want to consider creating a disguise. If anyone happens to recognize you, the authorities will be alerted and Herman will be waiting at the Bluff to arrest you.

At the Dock, a ship is about to leave and it may be your ticket out of here. Unfortunately it's reserved for members of the circus and even though Malcolm mostly looks the part, the Dog still won't be convinced enough to let you board.

The Public Baths can be found near the outskirts of town to the right of the Bluff. Though it may be fun to pick on the mime, don't press your luck or he'll really let you have it. The door lock is too complex for a simple nail to work but you will be able to construct something later to get you in. There's not much to see at the Town Arena just yet. Click the frog to move it out of the path.

At the City Limits, Malcolm trips over a log and Gunther suggests you use it on someone else. If you place it at the Bluff, Herman will trip over it allowing you to escape. It will only foil Kyrandia's diligent Deputy once so consider it your single get out of jail free card.

You can enter the dairy but it looks totally empty. The cows are still at pasture so you will have to entice them to return. Once you have a flask, fill it with water and add it to a sesame seed from the bin. Throw a total of five in the hopper (you can refill the flask with water at the frog in the Arena) and the cows will finally come home to resume dairy production. Puncture the container with a normal nail then fill a flask to get Cream.

Continue to the Town Square where the bulk of Kyrandia's citizens dwell. Most of the doors here are locked but are no match for your trusty nail. Go ahead and pick the large lock to the right and enter the Toy Factory.

The neglected factory has been shut down for ages but the old machinery still works. By taking one of the logs from near the dairy and dropping it into the funnel, you can create a different type of you depending on how the levers are positioned. Check what type of toy is currently selected by clicking on the red blueprint book.

The door in the back leads to Malcolm's room. There are two very important items here - the Jester's Staff under the bed and the Nut-on-a-string from the dresser.

The hole in the Toy Factory leads down into the cellar. If you attach a bent nail to the Nut-on-a-string, you can create a Bent nail-on-a-string. This handy little tool can be used for a variety of purposes, including catching eels from the stream. If you happened to pick up a sesame seed from the dairy, you can combine it with an eel to create fertilized seeds. Stick the fertilized seeds in the cracked wall then add a flask of water for an explosive effect. The catacombs found behind the wall holds many strange and probably dangerous items. Among them is the Portal Potion in the shell-shaped container. Malcolm will no doubt meet someone soon who can reveal how to use it to escape Kyrandia.

Now that you have some items to work with, it may be a good time to consider creating a disguise. Take some sesame seeds from the dairy and use them to lure the squirrel at the dump closer. Now use your nut-on-a-string to hypnotize it to gain a stylish new hat. For the next item, take your Bent nail-on-a-string to the Public Baths and use it to open the lock. Be sure to set your mood to lying before entering! The attendant Vince won't let you anywhere near the nice leather jerkin in the window so we'll need a distraction. Crank up the temperature using the thermostat to the right, then nab your prize while his back is turned.

The fish cream parlour is one of the strangest and post popular destinations in Kyrandia. Unfortunately it's so crowded you won't even be able to reach the counter. If you set a hypnotized squirrel on the ground and release it with your nut-on-a-string, the place will clear out in a hurry. Duane will recognize Malcolm without a disguise but will be willing to make a fish cream sandwich with the right ingredients. Place a sesame seed, eel and flask of cream in the funnel to receive Kyrandia's new national delicacy.

A strange tourist can be found occasionally while walking around Kyrandia. You won't be able to understand what he's saying but he will sometimes be willing to trade his fish cream sandwich in exchange for a toy. You may have to attempt all three types of toys multiple times before he will to make the exchange.

Escape From Kyrandia

Now that you have the lay of the land, it's time to figure out a way to get out of Kyrandia. There are actually many ways to leave, ranging from relatively simple to needlessly complex:

The Pegasus Potion

Seeing Zanthia land at the Pegasus Landing will give Malcolm the idea to use it himself to escape. She will easily recognize Malcolm if you visit her at the Magician's Lodge in downtown Kyrandia, so be sure to wear a full disguise. Check the cauldron and she will comment that it's still missing Essence of Horse. Return to the Toy Factory and adjust the levers to for the rocking horse (check the red book to confirm), add a log to the machine then press the green button to collect your prize. Zanthia won't let just anyone add an item to her cauldron so you will need to create a distraction. Create another fertilized sesame seed just like when you blasted down the wall in the cellar. Since Zanthia is very protective of her cabinet, stick the fertilized seeds underneath then add water to knock that piece of junk over. Add the horse to the cauldron then collect the Pegasus Potion. Remember - it has to be used at the Pegasus Landing.

The Portal Potion

In the cellar below the Toy Factory, you will notice a very stylish and very magical rug. By clicking the green apple then the red apple, you will be transported to Darm's study. Be sure Malcolm is wearing the complete disguise before doing this - Darm and Brandywine will definitely recognize him. Darm mistakes Malcolm for a sandwich delivery boy and won't talk with him further until he gets one. Give him a Fish Cream Sandwich and he will reveal Brandywine has been grounded for making portal potions. Darm has a real weakness for comedy so use the Jester's Staff to get him out of the room. Brandywine will reveal Darm keeps a supply of the potion nearby. Return to the cellar and combine a sesame seed with an eel then place it in the crumbling wall and add a flask of water to blast through. Within the catacombs, open the container to fill a flask with the Portal Potion. Travel to the town arena and down the potion to warp right to the Isle of Cats.

Alternatively, you can warm up to Brandywine with her favorite snack while Darm is out of the room. If you give her a hypnotized squirrel, she reveals you can visit the Isle of Cats simply by clicking two eels together and wishing for it.

The Circus Ship

To run away with the circus, Malcolm will need the right props for his audition. Visit the Toy Factory and select the leather ball with the machine's levers (check the red book to confirm). Add a leather item to the funnel for each ball such as Brandon's old shoe, the leather jerkin, or even a poor hypnotized squirrel. Once you have three, visit the dock and Malcolm will show off his juggling.

You can also steal the mime's costume by sneaking an eel into it while his back is turned. At the baths, use the same tactic as when you stole the leather jerkin for Malcolm's disguise. The dog at the circus ship won't depart without a fish cream sandwich so create one at the parlour or trade a toy to the foreign exchange student.

I Fought the Law

This is the most complex way of leaving Kyrandia but also the most entertaining. If Malcolm is recognized by someone, Herman will be waiting at the Bluff to apprehend him. Normally one would avoid this but if you watch Herman closely during the arrest, you can clearly see he is infested with fleas, likely from contact with the Isle of Cats. Malcolm is told to empty all of his items into the box but you can "palm" one by simply picking it from the inventory and not set it down. Every time you escape, you will be brought to a different place upon your next capture so remember not to be too cooperative.

The Doily Factory
Sneak a nail along for this one. After Rowena finishes her explanation, open the lock with your nail then stick the scissors under the poor fellow stuck inside. Feed him the string then step on the pedal and he will weave a rope for you to climb out with.

The Quarry
Bring along some fertilized sesame seeds (sesame seed combined with an eel). Go ahead and place the seeds in the pile of rocks. You don't have a flask of water but if you look at Malcolm, you will realize you don't need one. Click on him and he will wipe enough sweat to activate the seeds and finish the job in no time at all.

The Chain Gang
Rowena's career continues to take a turn for the worse. You won't need to sneak along any items for this one; the shears are all that's required. Cut Rowena's chain first and she will run off to distract the guard. With him gone, go ahead and cut Malcolm's chain so he can make his getaway.

The Ship
Sneak along a nail to break out of this final area. Rowena and Malcolm are sentenced to row one hundred times but the ship is passing right by the Isle of Cats, making it the perfect time to escape. Simply use your nail (or shears) on the chain and Malcolm will crawl out of the ship to freedom.

*Place the fertilized seeds in the cellar's cracked wall then add a flask of water to break it down
*Open the shell container in the catacombs then fill a flask with the Portal Potion
*Drink the potion at the Town Arena
Circus Ship
*Create three leather balls in the Toy Factory using leather items (shoe, leather jerkin, squirrel)
*Use them in Malcolm's juggling act by the circus ship at the docks
Escape Prison
*Have Malcolm get recognized by someone around Kyrandia
*Be captured by Herman at the Bluff
*Escape the Doily Factory by sneaking a nail to pick the lock, insert the scissors, feed the string and step on the pedal
*Escape the Quarry by sneaking fertilized sesame seeds, placing them in the rocks and have Malcolm wipe sweat on them
*Escape the Chain Gang by cutting Rowena's chain first, then Malcolm's
*Escape the Ship by sneaking a nail or the shears then either picking the lock or cutting the chain
