Balloon Fight

Take to the Skies! It's Balloon Fight. You'll score lots of points and have loads of fun when you burst enemy balloons and sent their parachutes crashing into the sea. But beware. These hot-air invaders have an amazing ability to land safely, blow up another balloon and come back stronger than before! What's more, if you fly too low you'll be devoured by man-eating sharks! Challenge them alone if you think you're up to it, or team up with a friend. Either way, you'll have the time of your life fighting off your opponents in the sky and avoiding these hungry sharks below in Balloon Fight!

Bump into your enemies to pop their balloons and send them tumbling to the world below. The person highest up in each collision is the winner. Sounds easy, except they will all be trying to do the same to you!

If defeated enemies parachute down on land, they will begin pumping up another balloon. Hit them once again before they can take to the skies once more.

Unlike the enemies, you will start with 2 balloons. Losing one will make it harder to fly, and losing both loses you the round.

If the round drags on too long, a lightning spark will begin bouncing around the stage. Colliding with it means instant death so this is your cue to wrap things up.

Enemies that fall into water will release a bubble that you can pop for extra points. Take care when nearing this hazard — a giant fish may jump up and grab anyone who gets close.

Game B plays the same as Game A, but with 2 players. Just as when bumping into enemies, you can still "accidentally" pop each other's balloons so it's up to you whether you play co-op or competitively.

Game C features an all new single player mode called Balloon Trip. The screen will scroll to the right, keeping you on the move as you collect balloons while carefully maneuvering around lightning obstacles.

Enemies will come in in 3 versions. The stronger ones move faster, but are worth more points. If a downed enemy pumps up another balloon, they will upgrade to a stronger version.

Every 3 rounds, you will get a bonus stage. There are no enemies, so grab as many balloons as possible for extra points. Collect all 20 for a massive bonus.

Balloon Fight

Nintendo's answer to Joust. As a balloon fighter, the goal is to pop your opponents balloons before they can do the same to you. However, it's not as easy as just knocking them to the ground. Downed enemies will begin pumping up their balloons once again and if they are not finished off, they will take to the skies once again in a stronger form. Fortunately, you have two balloons of your own. If one pops, you are still in the fight, but with decreased mobility.

The controls are very responsive and momentum based. The faster you move, the harder it is to change directions. Speed is always key in every round. If you spend too much time waiting in ambush, the clouds will begin shooting lightning bolts. With enough of these fast moving projectiles bouncing around, it's only a matter of time before your goose is cooked. With 12 repeating stages to overcome, you will need every life you can get to achieve your high score.

Balloon Fight is one of the most entertaining multiplayer games in the NES library. A second player can join you in a cooperative mode but humorously you can still pop each other's balloons. Because Balloon Fight is much more forgiving than Joust, it is a game that can be enjoyed between players of all skill levels.
